Course Description

This course was developed by the federal government in association with the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI), and the content is in general accordance with Environment Canada’s Code of Practice for Reducing CFC Emissions in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems. Examine the Code and increase your knowledge about refrigerant recovery, reuse, recycling and reclamation equipment by enrolling in Canada’s Ozone Layer Protection Awareness Program. Discover how refrigerants affect automotive, residential, commercial, and industrial applications. Explore the effects of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), halons, and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) on the atmosphere. With the handy reference training manual, you can deepen your understanding of the environmentally correct equipment design and proper handling of these substances. The skills gained in this program will enhance your awareness of the environmental and health problems resulting from ozone depletion. A minimum grade of 77 percent is required to pass this course. Students who successfully complete are eligible for the Ozone Depletion Substances (ODS) Certificate, which is issued by the HRAI and is valid in all provinces.
