Course Description

Prepare to become an ITLS instructor by studying the principles of adult education. Concepts covered by this course include the facilitation of different learning styles, learning environments, delivery methods and communication styles. To participate, you must successfully complete an ITLS basic or advanced provider course, demonstrate instructor potential and meet local chapter requirements. Applications for the ITLS Instructor course are available by contacting the ITLS program area at continuingeducation@nait.ca. With the knowledge gained in this course, you will have the skills to educate aspiring first responders with the basics of International Trauma Life Support. Prerequisites: - Currently a healthcare provider including first responder, EMR, EMT, EMT-P, RN, Physician or other allied health professional. - Obtain minimum grading in an ITLS provider course (86% or higher on the written exam and receive an “excellent” on the Patient Assessment Practical Exam). The instructor candidate must indicate the desire to be considered for instructor potential at the beginning of their provider course. Please contact continuingeducation@nait.ca for the instructor candidate application. A plan for teaching and maintaining competence must accompany your application. - Once you are accepted, you are required to complete an ITLS module through iTrauma before attending the course. The International Trauma Life Support for Emergency Care Providers: Current Edition textbook is required for the ITLS Basic Instructor course. If you currently do not have this textbook, you can purchase it at Shop at NAIT.

  2. Obtain minimum grading in an ITLS provider course (86% or higher on the written exam and receive an “excellent” on the Patient Assessment Practical Exam).   3. Once you have completed your plan for teaching and your application, please upload both documents through your Continuing Education student portal.

  4. Once you are accepted, you are required to complete an ITLS module through iTrauma before attending the course.
