Course Description

Prepare to become a Pediatric Advanced Life Support instructor by studying the principles of adult education. Concepts covered by this course include the facilitation of different learning styles, learning environments, delivery methods and communication styles. With the knowledge gained in this course, you will have the skills to educate healthcare providers and first responders on the advanced concepts of Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Prerequisites

Registration through the Heart & Stroke Foundation Resuscitation portal is required to be eligible to take this course: https://cpr.heartandstroke.ca

Enroll in Heart & Stroke Instructor courses

  1. Register on the Heart & Stroke Portal.
    • Complete the Instructor application.
    • Self-enroll into the course listed on the Heart & Stroke portal.
  2. Provide prerequisites.
    • NAIT staff will reach out to students enrolled through the Heart & Stroke Portal to confirm prerequisites.
    • Students must have a valid provider level certificate for the course they're registering into and have completed the Heart & Stroke Core Instructor Course.
  3. Acquire the textbook from the NAIT bookstore or from Heart & Stroke. These are referred to as 'instructor kits'.
  4. Beginning 2 weeks prior to the course start date, NAIT staff will reach out to students enrolled in the Heart & Stroke portal and add them to the NAIT course. Payment will be requested at this time.

Section Notes

1.  You must be registered through the Heart & Stroke Foundation Resuscitation portal to be eligible to take this course: https://cpr.heartandstroke.ca.

2.  You must also hold current registration as a healthcare professional including physicians, paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, dentists, and Canadian Forces designations 5A, 5B, QL6A Advanced Journeymen (Med A) and QL6B Advanced Journeymen (Physician Assistant).

3.  This course requires the following prerequisites:

      a.  CPRS100 - Current Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support card.

      b. CPRS300 - Current Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider card.

      c. Core Instructor Course - offered through Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

4.  Textbook:

Heart & Stroke Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor Manual (2020 Ed.). This kit is mandatory and can be purchased through the Heart and Stroke Portal

5.  Registration deadline for this section is 2 weeks before start date

6.  Additional Information:

Within six months of successful completion of this course and prior to receiving instructor status, you must complete your monitoring of a full Basic Life Support provider course. You must be monitored by an Instructor Trainer or Experienced Instructor.
