Course Description

Discover Quantum GIS (QGIS) as a free and open source software alternative to traditional GIS platforms. As a graduate of this course, you will be able to describe the use of QGIS for data management, image processing, map production, and spatial modeling, and describe how it supports a vast number of vector, raster, and database formats and functionalities. QGIS is a user-friendly Open Source Geographic Information System licensed under GNU General Public License. QGIS provides a large number of geospatial tools either through its core functions or through its continuously growing repository of freely available plugins. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to describe how to set up a project, and how to load, query, process, and analyze vector and raster data. You will also be able to describe how to use plugins for Point Cloud and LiDAR datasets, georeference raster files, digitize and create vector files, run basic classifications of Remote Sensing datasets, analyze accuracy of geospatial data, and create maps and reports based on your geospatial datasets.
