What You Will Learn

This program will help you grow your knowledge and gain hands-on skills in fiber optics technology while preparing for the Fiber Optics Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) exam. 

The program is split into three courses that will take you from theoretical review through fiber optic network design and splicing. By the end of the program, you will have received instruction on:

  • Fiber optic installation

  • Network planning

  • Components

  • Systems design

  • Testing

  • Documentation

  • Estimating

  • Writing project specifications

With your CFOT designation, you will have the knowledge and skills to work with state-of-the-art cabling for telephones, security systems and LANs. You will be able to terminate and splice fiber optic cables as well as troubleshoot and document fiber systems within industry specifications.

The FOA exam is administered on the last day of the CFOT100 course; a mark of 70% is required to pass.
