Course Description

Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) use computer technology for the design and machining of workpieces. Students who successfully complete this introductory course will be able to utilize CAD/CAM software to draw two-dimensional tool paths that machines use to create physical parts. Upon successful completion of this introductory course, students will be able to draw two-dimensional objects that can be machined on a machining centre or turning centre. This course is a prerequisite for the subsequent levels of NAIT Mastercam courses. Mastercam is the most widely used CAM software worldwide and is a common choice among Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programmers. This software will deliver comprehensive tool paths by providing full 3D wireframe modeling, powerful surface modeling/editing, solid modeling, and associative dimensioning. Mastercam has translators that allow you to open virtually any CAD file.
