Course Description

What are your rights and obligations as a supervisor working in a unionized environment? Learn how to interpret, administer and apply clauses of a collective agreement in your supervisory role. You will recognize your supervisory legal responsibilities of Alberta labour legislation and learn the history and societal role of unions in Alberta and Canada. In addition, you will gain an understanding of the supervisor’s role in the grievance procedure, progressive discipline and collective bargaining. Instructor will guide students in interpreting specific clauses of a collective agreement. Students will participate in role-plays regarding progressive discipline, collective bargaining, mediation and rights arbitration.
