Course Description

Cameras perceive light differently than our eyes, but by learning to create, modify, and control light, you can take your images to the next level. Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to use professional sound and lighting techniques and equipment for digital video production. Cameras need more light to produce a quality image than you might imagine, and this course will teach you the nuances of light and shadow so you can properly plan your next shoot. Through hands-on exercises, graduates of this course will be able to apply professional lighting techniques and equipment specific to video and film production. You will be able to use traditional cinematic lighting values and describe how they can be applied to your video work. You will also be able to describe real-life tips and tricks for low-budget lighting in the field and inexpensive lighting equipment that you can buy at a hardware store to make your video look its best. Even on major productions or when shooting in the field, sound is often problematic, and knowing how to be prepared for reliable sound capture will enhance the quality of your work while saving you time and money in post-production. Graduates of this course will be able to describe a range of microphones and apply techniques for troubleshooting sound in the field. You will also be able to apply strategies to improve recording quality sound for your productions.
